KR_Conserved_Parcels_2019_AssessmentThese data were produced by the Center for Land Use and Sustainability (CLUS) at Shippensburg University and are current as of May 20, 2020. The principal investigator is Dr. Claire Jantz ([email protected]). CLUS fellow Matt Ostap and Penn State graduate student Jon Chester are the producers. This work was funded by the Kittatinny Coalition. In September 2020, The Nature Conservancy edited the datasets produced by CLUS (a) to correct selection errors related to conserved parcels and (b) to remove road right-of-way and creek parcels in Cumberland County from the unconserved lands dataset. TNC also updated the metadata and created a data package for sharing with Kittatinny Coalition partners. This data set includes all parcels in the Kittatinny Ridge landscape that are greater than 10 acres and are already conserved. A series of geoprocessing functions were applied to calculate the following attributes for each parcel:-Parcel ID (from county parcel data)-Acreage (>10 acres) (calculated)-Land Owner Name (from county parcel data)-Mailing Address (from county parcel data)-Undeveloped land cover – acres and % (“Undeveloped” land cover is defined as land cover classes 1 through 6 (water, wetlands, tree canopy, shrubland, low vegetation, and barren) in the 1-meter land cover data from the Chesapeake Conservancy (PA-statewide data available for download here: https://chesapeakeconservancy.org/conservation-innovation-center/high-resolution-data/land-cover-data-project/)-Natural cover – acres and % (“Natural” land cover is defined as land cover classes 1 through 4 (water, wetlands, tree canopy, and shrubland).)-Adjacency to Conserved Land (within 1km) – yes/no (Conserved Lands are defined as the following “PA Conserved Land” datasets available from PALTA: Federal, State, Privately (Land Trust) Owned, Conservation Easements, and Farmland Preservation Easements. This work was funded by the Kittatinny Coalition. In September 2020, The Nature Conservancy edited the datasets produced by CLUS (a) to correct selection errors related to conserved parcels, (b) to redefine adjacency to conserved land (as within 50m rather than 1km) and recalculate the Parcel Category field accordingly, and (c) to remove road right-of-way and creek parcels in Cumberland County from the unconserved lands dataset. TNC also updated the metadata and created a data package for sharing with Kittatinny Coalition partners. This data set includes all parcels in the Kittatinny Ridge landscape that are > 10 acres and that are not conserved.
